My First Birchbox: October 2017

Hello everyone!

So this month I jumped on the Birchbox bandwagon and started my monthly subscription.

My first Birchbox arrived yesterday and is a beautiful vibrant pink and purple marbled design. October is actually Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so with this in mind, Birchbox did a collaboration with CoppaFeel, breast cancer charity in the UK.

This month’s box even included a sticker which you place in the shower to remind yourself to check for signs of breast cancer. There’s also a card to keep in your purse and I got two £10 off vouchers for when I spend over £50

My first product from this months box is this shower gel from Anatomicals. It is part of the CoppaFeel campaign to encourage you to check your boobs in the shower, hence the cheeky product name!

It’s a really nice fresh, zesty scent and although I don’t think I’ll be purchasing it again, it was lovely to use. From what I’ve gathered everyone received this product in his October box.

The second product that all subscribers received this month is the Balance Me Pure Skin Face Wash. I love a good natural product and this for me was lovely.

It is sulphate free face wash and designed to cleanse, purify and refresh your skin rather than stripping away those all important natural protective barriers. It dissolves makeup easily and leaves your face feeling nice, soft and clean afterwards. I’m actually really loving this product, although I’m not 100% sure on the smell, it sort of has a herb like scent to it, but I guess that ties in with it being a natural product.

The third product in the box is this Model Co Contour Stick. I am yet to test this product, but I have swatched it on the back of my hand and it seems nice so far.

Everyone got to choose this month between a Model Co Mascara and this contour stick. It is a smooth and creamy consistency that I think will blend pretty easily. I can’t wait to use it properly actually. Although I’ve just had a look at their website and the shade is called warm bronze. It does concern me slightly as I do have cool undertones and bronze colours don’t suit me all that well. Positive note – as contour sticks go, it looks pretty good so far.

The next product I unboxed was this Number 4 Lumiere d’hiver Super Comb Prep & Protect leave in conditioner. It claims to strengthen and repair your hair, as well as instantly detangling, colour protection and UV protection.

I’m not 100% convinced with this product, however after just one use it is hard to tell. I think these type of products need a few uses before you can really tell the difference. I’m not even sure that it did help to detangle my hair as I use multiple different products in my wet hair and use a boar bristle brush that doesn’t pull knots. I can’t even say that I like the smell of this either. Although there are hundreds of really good reviews for this and the website has a whole fact guide on how good it is, so maybe I just need to persist with this product. With my hair being recently bleached the f**k out of, it’s very hard to tell what feels normal right now.

Im excited to use this Ecotools Contour Perfecting Applicator that I received this month. It will be great to use in conjunction with the new Model Co Contour Stick.

I love the design, having the sponge with a handle will make contouring so much easier and more precise. The Contour Perfecting Applicator is designed to sculpt cheekbones, highlight and perfect in a simple sweep. I can’t wait to use this and I already think I will be repurchasing this mini contour beauty blender.

The last product I received in my first Birchbox was the Spectrum A04 Marble Tapered Finishing Brush. I got this for free by entering the code Marble at the checkout.

I’ve gotta say, I love the look and feel of this brush. It’s so soft and sleek looking! It is a medium sized brush for fine application of products such as highlighters, bronzers or translucent powders…or even all three!

This brush is part of the Spectrum A range which is designed specifically for Application. All of their brushes, including this one, are made from the highest quality synthetic hair. I will 100% be purchasing more Spectrum brushes, I’m saying this before even using it – I just love it. Plus they are a vegan registered and cruelty free brand!

I’m really pleased with the products I received in this month’s box and for my first box, I’m pretty impressed. I’ll definitely be using all of them and maybe, possibly be buying a few full sized products too. I’m already so excited for next months box, which is a collaboration with Vogue!

Have you received your Birchbox this month? Anyone inspired to subscribe? It’s only around £12 per month and I definitely think it’s worth it for what you get, especially if you get a code for an extra free product like I did!

Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

  1. You got some really good items! I’ve heard of this, but haven’t subscribed because I don’t use makeup as much as I’d like to (working a lot and not wearing it at work). But maybe I’ll treat myself one of these days haha

    1. Once you subscribe you can tailor your box to your preferences, it asked questions about makeup, hair and skincare. I’m sure if you did it you could put that you’re more into other things rather than makeup. Some stuff you get to choose too! X
