Hi my lovelies,
I love perfume, then again, doesn’t everyone? I think writing about scents can be very difficult, not only do people smell things differently, but also I never know how to describe them.
So since I am really bad at describing perfumes, I have the help of the internet and the official brands themselves to describe these scents. Otherwise, each description of perfume would be “oh, this one… this one smells amazing” for every scent without actually explaining each of them to you. Most of the time, it’s not the actual smell that makes it one of my favourites, but rather the fact that they hold a special memory for me. I won’t list all the perfumes and smellies I own, but just my top picks. I’m not suggesting that they are the best perfumes available to buy – but simply a matter of personal preference.
I really want to do a proper sort out all of my perfumes and make myself a perfume shelf in our bedroom, if only we had a bit more space!
Lancôme – La Vie Est Belle
I’m going to start with my all time fave perfume – Lancôme’s La Vie Est Belle, which was added to my perfume collection on my birthday last year from Myles. I absolutely love the bottle, colour, scent and the fact that it was my first every gift I opened from Myles.

“La vie est belle” is a French expression meaning life is beautiful. I got the perfume notes description from the John Lewis website:
- Top notes: Pear, black currant
- Heart notes: Orange blossom, jasmine, iris
- Base notes: Praline, vanilla, tonka bean, patchouli
Just reading that list made my senses tingle! I don’t know if I can imagine smelling it or the types of scents are making me hungry! It’s a very beautiful, feminine perfume and I am always complimented when I wear this. It really does make me feel pretty when I wear it. Definitely a very chic, sweet and delicious flowery scent. I wear this the most, almost every day.
Marc Jacobs – Decadence
Another of my favourite perfumes is Marc Jacobs Decadence, a gift from my little brothers a few Christmases ago. Don’t you find that wearing certain scents can make you feel completely different in your own skin? This Marc Jacobs makes me feel so glam and luxurious. Just the bottle itself makes a bold statement with the bottle design inspired by one of Marc’s iconic handbags. The larger bottles have a black tassel as part of the bottle too, the whole emerald green colouring and fab design say “this is for when I want to feel sexy” in my head of course!
Decadence is a wonderfully sensual woody scent. Here are the notes that make up this perfume, found from the John Lewis website:
- Top notes: Italian Plum, Iris, Saffon
- Heart notes: Bulgarian Rose, Jasmine Sambac, Orris
- Base Notes: Liquid Amber, Vetiver, Papyrus Woods
Each Marc Jacobs perfume seems to have some sort of back story or personality behind it, it even shows in their adverts. For example Daisy is the sweet, girl next door, Lola is the quirky, different scent. Yet Decadence is sultry and sophisticated – I love it! I wear this most on date nights with my man.
Vera Wang – Princess
Vera Wang’s Princess was brought for me by my work girls for my birthday. It’s a lovely fruity and floral scent that has strong hints of apples and amber to it. I love this perfume, it really reminds me of being a teenager, light and carefree. Definitely a daytime scent for me.
I love the chunky heart shaped bottle, it definitely stands out in my collection. It comes with a gold crown cap containing a hidden treasure – a keepsake gold band ring with tiny amethyst-coloured crystals surrounding it.
Here are the notes I found from John Lewis:
- Top notes: Apple, apricot, water lily, mandarin orange
- Heart notes: Guava, dark chocolate, tuberose, tiare flower
- Base notes: Amber, vanilla, woody notes
Vera Wang – Pink Princess
I also have Vera Wang’s Pink Princess and Lovestruck perfumes. Pink Princess is one the only perfumes I’ve ever bought myself, it’s a fun, floral scent that reminds me of when I first started working at my bakery shop. I bought it on one of my first paydays around Christmas time, as I remember buying a bottle of Snow Fairy from Lush too. I’d been shopping with my mum that day and I remember seeing this in Debenhams and it being really cheap and very suitable for my princess-like personality! The same day, I also got my first ball python and named her Vera! I’ve actually misplaced the bottle but here’s one from google:
- Top notes: pink grapefruit and raspberry
- Middle notes: hibiscus and honeysuckle
- Base notes: marshmallow and white amber
I actually loved this perfume and have never seen it for sale since. Obviously, it is most likely available online, that being said I may have to pop it onto my birthday wish list!
Marc Jacobs – Lola
Another Marc Jacobs scent, one of my faves, is Lola. It has the most beautiful bottle, deep purple with a large colourful flower cap. This reminds me of growing up, it was my first “grown-up perfume” and I have always loved the smell – although it is currently absent from my collection.
Another floral and fruity, yet musky scent, these types seem to suit me the most.
- Top notes of grapefruit, pear & pink pepper, geranium, peony & rose
- Contains base notes of vanilla, tonka bean & musk
Marc Jacobs – Oh, Lola!
I also have Oh Lola, which is the pink version that also comes in a gorgeous bottle. Whereas Lola is a more sensual, confident fragrance, Oh Lola is a lot more lighthearted and youthful – very much a flirty, floral summer smell!
- Top notes: strawberry, raspberry and pear
- Middle notes: magnolia, peony and cyclamen
- Base notes: sandalwood, tonka bean and vanilla
This is sort of like the daytime version of Lola, something I must wear more often.
Roberto Cavalli – Paradiso
I got this little gem from my parents as a gift when they’d come home from being on holiday. I wasn’t familiar with Roberto Cavalli until my mum had the original perfume bought for her a few years back. When I was on my way home from Florida, I spotted the Roberto Cavalli Nero Absoluto, a bold, elegant, rich scent. I ended up buying this for my mum, as it suited her way better than it did me, and so we come to my gift of Paradiso. With my mum knowing how much I loved her Nero Absoluto, she came across this lighter, fruitier scent – perfectly suitable for me! It is still very elegant, but much more wearable for someone who suits the floral type of scent. It’s a very lightly spiced, oriental type of smell.
- Top notes: citruses, bergamot and mandarin orange
- Heart notes: Jasmin
- Base notes: Pine tree, cypress and laurels
This smell really gets me into the summer spirit, something I always pack in my case for a sunny holiday abroad.
Other perfumes I like and wear a lot include:
- Giorgio Armarni – Diamonds
- Prada – Candy L’Eau
- Vera Wang – Lovestruck
- Victoria Secret Body Mists (literally all of them, my faves are Amber Romance and Coconut Passion)
- Yves Saint Laurent – Black Opium
You’ll be glad to know that I’m going to finish this here. I love how certain smells can take you back to an exact time or place, or just the way they can make you feel, whether that’s flirty yet innocent or sexy and seductive. I hope you’ve enjoyed my long list of my perfumes and why I love them all so much.
What’s your favourite perfume? Does it hold a special memory for you? How does it make you feel?
Love Charlie x

Hi Charlie, I’m a big fan of Shalimar from Guerlain. I also love other perfumes but I always go back to Shalimar. When I’m wearing that fragrance I’m feeling more elegant and happier. It puts me in a good mood.
