The other day I was searching the web for different beauty sites and came across Feel Unique – which I’d actually bought something from before, but forgotten all about. Feel Unique is an online-only site that sells all things makeup, hair, skincare and fragrance related. All from over 500 different brands – including Laura Mercier, Benefit & Kiehl’s.
Whilst having a little looksie on their website, I noticed a “samples” section. Being the curious cat I am, I clicked on and it turns out you can sample items for free! Just pay postage!
So basically, Pick ‘n’ Mix is a sample selection, you can choose 5 free samples every month and only pay £3.95 for the shipping and handling fee.
Feel Unique also let you claim back the shipping and handling cost in your next haul. If you check your dispatch email they’ll be a £3.95 gift voucher where you can redeem on your next purchase – this excludes the Pick ‘n’ Mix samples of course – but full sized items with £3.95 off!
In my first months five samples, I chose some rather random ones. I was a bit stupid and rushed what I was doing before bed. I ended up picking my five pretty quick, without reading into anything properly, however, I’m pretty happy with what sleepy Charlie chose. Here they are below:
I watched a TV programme not so long back where they did tests on how the skin ages and why wrinkles appear. Apparently, the most likely cause of wrinkles and skin ageing is sun and UV exposure.
Although I live in not-so-sunny England, when it is hot I don’t look after my skin like I should, it’s very rare for me to wear any sort of skin protection- even on holidays abroad. Not clever. Just lazy and stupid – I know. So with this research giving me a good little wake up call, I decided that I wanted to test out a few good high SPF sunblocks that were also high in UVB and UVA, ready for our holiday in September.
I’ve been using this every day this week under my makeup and so far I’m really happy with the results. It absorbs into your skin in seconds and leaves a lovely matte finish with no white marks.
It’s not sticky or greasy and doesn’t leave my pores feeling clogged. In fact, it actually feels quite luxurious, kind of like a primer and you can apply your makeup on top straight afterwards.
It is like your not wearing sun cream! But you are!
This is the second sun cream I tried, this time by Bioderma. It claims to have high protection for combination and oily skin, with a matte finish, the same as the La Roche-Posay SPF above.
Again, this was a wonderful, light fluid that blending in quickly with no greasy or sticky feeling left behind. It is definitely a matte finish as I found there were no shiny patches and my makeup stayed on as normal.
I cannot comment on whether or not either of the Bioderma or the La Roche-Posay sun creams really protect my skin well from the suns rays, as currently, we are four inches deep in snow in Derbyshire right now. However, I can confirm that both of them have the correct anti UVB and UVA protection and a high SPF.
My favourite out of the two has to be the La Roche-Posay, just because my skin felt that tiny bit smoother and my makeup stayed on exactly as normal. However, I’d be happy to have either of these along in my suitcase on holiday and also, as part of my daily routine as you can still absorb harmful UV rays on a cloudy day.
Some other things I wanted to test out were eye creams – can you tell I’m worried about my wrinkles yet?
Even though I know that eye creams won’t reduce my wrinkles (unless containing retinol), I wanted to try out a few to combat my dark circles and puffiness. Also, I can sometimes get dry patches of eczema across my eyelids and under eyes, so keeping this area hydrated is a must for me.
As some of you may or may not know, I am OBSESSED with Kiehl’s. I was recently invited to a blogger event in Nottingham hosted by Kiehl’s, that I won’t be able to attend due to work commitments – GUTTED!
Anyway, this eye cream feels amazing on your skin, its very hydrating and I did notice a very slight reduction of my puffy eyes after using it a few days in a row. It glides on easily without pulling at your delicate eye area and doesn’t cause any irritation. It almost feels silky, in comparison to the Avocado Eye Treatment I’ve used before which was very sticky.
So recently, I’ve heard a lot of other bloggers and influencers talking about Charlotte Tilbury products and raving about how good they are. When I saw this as an option for a sample, it went straight in my basket! What I didn’t realise, is that I would get this in shade 4 which is medium, far too dark for my skin – let alone my under eyes!
Let me just give you the product description:
Five years in the making, this genius Charlotte Tilbury Mini Miracle Eye Wand is the antidote to tired, dull and exhausted under-eyes. It is the perfect 5 actions in 1 Miracle Wand for everyone – because the whole world is tired!
When you are tired the colour drains from your face making you appear more sallow, grey with dark circles around your eyes. Mini Miracle Eye Wand creates the appearance of 8 hours sleep in two clicks by expertly covering dark circles and lines, smoothing out bags or hollows, brightening the eye contour and hydrating the skin’s surface for a dewy, luminous finish.
I’m gutted that this sample is too dark because I could tell it was an amazing product. It’s like an eye cream and a concealer in one! It goes on smooth and looks as though it doesn’t settle into the creases. I don’t think I would buy this as a full sized product as I do prefer to use my MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter and I’m only really looking for an eye cream. Very good idea to use this Charlotte Tilbury product though if you travel a lot or take your make up on the go, even if you prefer to have fewer products.
I’ve never heard of the brand before but am always up for trying out new foundations. Again, the shades were far too dark for me, but I did test them out and put on a very pale powder on top to tone it down a tad, and blend right down my neck too so I didn’t look too drastic!
I found this foundation a bit different from my normal MAC Stuido Fix Fluid. It was more of a dewy finish and I don’t know whether its the shades being too dark, or that just what this foundation does, but I found that it made me look awful. When I first applied it to my hand in looked so blendable and beautiful but when applied to my face, the finish looked so kind of off. I applied with a beauty blender and for some reason just accentuated the different textures, despite prepping with a mask and priming my face before it. It also felt a bit tacky on my skin too. I don’t know if it’s me comparing or not, but I just really didn’t like these products.
I definitely started this post with my faves to my least faves, I hope you don’t think I’m being a sour-faced Susan towards the end! I loved this whole samples concept from Feel Unique, you guys HAVE to try it out. Not only do you get to try items that you want to try without spending the big bucks before knowing what it is like. But also, you get to come across brands you’ve never even heard of and they could soon become a staple in your collection.
I will 100% be claiming back my £3.95 shipping and handling money by buying the full sized La Roche-Posay sun cream I mentioned above, I enjoyed using this product knowing that it was helping my skin to stay young and healthy by blocking out the UV rays. I can’t wait to take it abroad in September too!
Have you guys tried Feel Unique before? What were your fave samples?
See you next time!
