The other day I received my February Birchbox, can you believe how damn fast this year is going already?
This month everyone got the chance to pick the box design from an era as the theme this month is Beauty Through The Decades. The choices were either the 70’s flower power, techno 80’s or the nifty 90’s.
I went for the 90’s box due to being a 90’s baby, I thought I’d stick with what I know!
This months box is all about classic beauty mixing up with more experimental looks and having fun with your look! Usually Birchbox send out five products to try, although this month I have received six! I think this was an accident!
The first item I received is a full sized eyeshadow trio by The Beauty Crop in Love U So Latte. Unfortunately, my trio arrived a little smashed up, but for review purposes we will look past this! The three colours include:
- Vanilla Latte – the highlight
- French Roast – the blend and shadow mid shade
- Midnight Blend – the darkest define and line shade
I do love brown and neutral eye shadow colours as they really stand out against my fair skin and bring my blue eyes forward. You really can’t go wrong with a neutral/brown trio, it’s a classic colour combo that was brought to life in the 90’s, I can even remember brown lipstick being the in colour to wear. Apparently, these shadows contain actual coffee extracts to tighten and brighten the skin, no wonder it smells so good! Each colour is highly pigmented and very flattering across most skin tones.
I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t buy these myself, just due to the fact I have far too many large eyeshadow palettes. However, I think the fact they are cruelty free, vegan AND free from parabens and sulphates is absolutely great!
The second item in the box this month was ModelCo’s Green Concealer stick. It’s the second full size product in the box and I am personally a huge lover of these colour correcting products. Apparently, colour correction was seen throughout every major makeup brand in the 90’s!
I’ve used a lot of green colour correction in the past as it cancels out red tones in the skin – great for helping to cover acne and rosey cheeks! This one is fab, just draw it on, blend in and go over the top with your usual foundation. It’s so simple to use, my makeup bag wouldn’t be without colour correction products – I’m happy to have this little gem join the clan!
There were two hair care products in my box this month, the first is this Percy & Reed – Quite Frankly Flawless Finishing Polish. I absolutely love the Percy & Reed No Oil, Oil and knew this finishing polish would be just as good. This is the first finishing cream that doesn’t make my hair look and feel greasy, just nice and shiney and healthy. I use it mainly for taming away flyaways and calming down the frizziness a tad. It is great as it’s lightweight and doesn’t weigh down your hair like most finishing products I’ve used. Apparently, it also provides a barrier against temperature and humidity – great for summer holidays! It’s so easy to use, just apply it sparingly to dry hair, you only need a tiny pea sized amount, warm between your palms and smooth over your hair for a perfect finish.
My absolute favourite item from this months box has to be the Luseta Coconut Milk Hair Mask. I love anything coconut, it smells absolutely incredible, just like a Caribbean holiday in a tube – I could smell it before even unwrapping the box! It’s an ultra nourishing treatment for damaged dry and color-treated hair, perfect if you’ve bleached it to death like I have. It helps to fortify and restructure to its natural state and protect it against any future damage to promote healthy hair growth. It’s also sulfate, phosphate and paraben free! I will 100% buy the full sized version of this, my hair feels amazing after just one use, so soft and lush.
Ok, so at first I wasn’t sold on this LAQA & CO. B’lighter, I don’t know why but it just reminded me of those kids makeup sets you got with roll on glitter and bright blue eyeshadow. However, I have come to love this as its fab for a simple, natural look for work. It’s basically a cream blush and highlighter in one – shimmer with a pop of colour in the shade Preacher’s Daughter, a peachy-pink blush.
I love the consistency of this, it’s a lovely creamy balm that reacts to the warmth of your skin for a flawless blend leaving a lovely smooth pigmented glow- the perfect strobe with touch of color.
For some reason, Birchbox sent me a sixth item this month which was the ARROW ENHANCE Waterproof Eyeliner + Brightener. This is perfect for defining and enhancing eyes, it’s a 2-in-1 waterproof eyeliner and brightener from Birchbox brand ARROW.
The dual-sided pencil lets you line with the highly pigmented black tip, while the pearlescent pink tip gives eyes an instant pick-me-up, brightening and accentuating your natural eye color. The result is a polished, wide-awake look created with just one tool! I love that it’s so simple to use and glides on a dream.
The brightener side of this is by far the best ‘white’ liner I’ve used. Not only did it manage to stay on all day, but it’s brightness wasn’t too overbearing, it’s really natural looking and blends beautifully into my everyday look. It’s also vegan, paraben-free, cruelty-free, and gluten-free! Not bad for an extra full size freebie, thanks Birchbox!
Birchbox have also teamed up with company, Cheerz this month – a photo printing app. Get 10 free polaroid-style prints for each Birchbox customer!
Have you had your Birchbox this month? Which decade did you go for?
