May Birchbox 2018

Hey honey buns!

Month five of this years Birchbox subscription arrived last week and I won’t lie, I barely even looked at the products upon opening – even with this gorgeous palm print! So over the past couple of days I’ve been trying and testing each product, here’s what I received this month…

Green Frog Botanic Body Wash

Ok, I don’t like to start with a negative but I really hate receiving body wash in my Birchboxes, as I buy my fave body washes from Lush. However, I do tend to go for products that contain aloe vera, so I opened this up expecting to like it but by god I was wrong.

It is supposed to be a relaxing geranium and peppermint scent, I won’t lie, it’s bloody awful. In fact, I hated the smell that much, that I didn’t actually end up using it. That being said, it is 100% vegan and cruelty free, as well as being known to be good for those who suffer with eczema and psoriasis.

So maybe, I will use it at some point when my eczema flares up to see if it makes any difference. I wish it wasn’t so strongly scented as the reviews look great and it’s also the editors choice for the Beauty Shortlist Awards!

Doucce Cosmetics Lip Stain

This month, we were able to choose between two colours for this lip stain by Doucce Cosmetics, out of the two, I went for Steaming Red. I’ve never heard of this brand before so was pretty excited to try this, as I do like to use lip stains over liquid lipsticks.

It’s not actually a red colour, more of a deep berry stain, but I actually love it! It glides on your lips so easily, it’s not tacky at all, just smooth and velvety. Not only that, but it doesn’t transfer at all, 100% kiss-proof!

Once it’s dry, it feels like there’s nothing on, it lasts all day and looks beaut! I will actually be purchasing the full size product for £21, not only for me but for my mumma too!

Eyeko Liquid Pen Eyeliner

As a huge Kat Von D Tattoo Liner lover, I assumed I’d instantly fall in love with this liquid pen eyeliner. The liner itself is just as good, stays put all day without cracking or smudging.

However, I’m really put off by the pen nib. It’s very stiff and rigid which makes the liner hard to deposit evenly. With the Tattoo Liner, it’s so easy to glide on as the nib is flexible and almost like a calligraphy brush pen. This Eyeko Liner is completely opposite, therefore I won’t be using this again.

Amika Blowout Spray

I actually quite like this, it’s a brill little lightweight spray that works on both damp and dry hair to give you the perfect blowout, protecting, nourishing, smoothing, and volumising hair.

I sprayed this into my damp hair before blow-drying as it has added heat protection and gives hair good texture and lift. It didn’t leave my hair feeling sticky and actually helped to minimise frizz from over-bleaching. Not only that but it smells pretty good too.

Native Unearthed Natural Charcoal Deodorant Balm

I do like to receive these kind of products just to try out, as I know I’d never actually buy it myself. Activated Charcoal is huge in the beauty and skincare industry right now too! It can actually hold up to 1000 times it’s own weight in moisture, making this great for absorbing underarm sweat.

I first trialled this one on my day off work and I have to say, I did carry around a small deodorant can in my bag, you could say I was a little sceptical!

However, I actually really loved this stuff, it smells a lil bit funky, but I’ll be using it again! It’s all natural, antibacterial and easy to use.

I have enjoyed trying out a lot of new brands and types of products in this months box, the main reason I like Birchbox is definitely to try out new brands and trends.

Until next time,

Love Charlie x
